Traveling on a Budget

After we came home from Tokyo, we wanted to go out again. See the world. Most people are constantly telling us, "You two are still young! Go travel and see the world before the kids come!" That's exactly what we are doing. :) We knew there are cheap prices out there. The question was, "Where do we go to find these prices?" We knew skyscanner pretty well, but I got word that there are other sites that provide low fares as well.

Here's a list of sites we have come across: skyscanner.com, edreams.net, edreams.com, priceline.com, the "Hopper" app (there is no website currently, just an app to download), as well as Google Flights which sometimes provides decent fares.

Planning ahead will help you to see when the best deals are due to High Season or Low Season. Or if you plan months ahead, you'll be able to jump on to High Season tickets for a ridiculously low rate! Because I work for the Department of Education, the School system has a set schedule for vacation days (Winter, Fall, and Spring Break). We definitely use this to our advantage to know when to travel next.

These sites are great for low flight fares. Next, where are you gonna sleep at night? I know no one wants to sleep at a bus stop or their rental car. We needed to find a site that can help us with a place to stay. I remember a good friend coming to visit and he told me about airbnb.com which is a site that lets you choose a place to stay for a really low price. Its a simple site to navigate, with filters of when you plan to go and where as well as how much you're willing to spend. In other countries, you can stay at a place for as low as $13 a night. Talk about saving money! Yes, we can go sleep at a hotel and feel the luxury of it but wouldn't you want to experience each country like a local would? We sure as heck want to!

I personally recommend Airbnb because you will truly live like a local and become immersed quicker than any other visitor. You get to meet locals firsthand and they will always be available to help you with anything you need.
